I am a European writer of slipstream fiction - the genre that bends the others - specialising in the short form. I have had over 180 stories published, plus eleven short story collections. Three novellas. One entertainment. Five novels. And some other stuff.

September 2024

Another book deal! My thirteenth collection of short stories, Somnambulant Hearts, will appear sometime next year from a publisher I will name nearer the time.

August 2024

I'm delighted to announce that Union City, a non-fiction book about the 1980 cult classic film starring Deborah Harry and Dennis Lipscomb, directed by Marcus Reichert, will be appear sometime within the next twelve months through the Midnight Movie Monograph series published by PS Publishing through their Electric Dreamhouse imprint. More information as it comes.

Also a mini-retrospective of my short stories, featuring six of my best tales, has been sold to Raphus Press for publication as a limited edition hardback this November. The collection is titled Enfilades and pre-orders are currently being taken on their website: Raphus Press.

I've also sold a short story, "Water In The Wrong Light", to Roads Less Travelled magazine.

Additionally, my short story, "The Enfilade", originally published last year in Black Static will be reprinted in Best Horror of the Year Vol 16.

Finally, three stories I selected as editor for the anthology, "Bang!", published by Head Shot Press have been longlisted for the Crime Writers' Association Short Story Dagger Award.

March 2024

My new short story collection, "Commercial Book", has been published by Psychofon Records. The limited edition has sold out, but the regular version is available here on their website: Commercial Book.

My short story, "An Absence of Ghosts", has been published in Theaker's Quarterley Fiction #73..

Another short story, "Some Pastel Morning", has been sold to IZ Digital.

March 2023

Seven new short stories written. "Amber", "Japanese Watercolor", "Secrets", "Die In Terror", "Red Rider", "My Second Wife" and "Floyd", which will form part of my intended collection of short stories of exactly 1000 words.

And one story written for a different collection I'm working on. This one called "Betaville".

Also, one short story written for a different collection to both of those above, "Inversion Layer".

February 2023

New short story written: "Easter Woman". This is a story of exactly 1000 words. My intention is to write a new collection of 40 stories where each are exactly 1000 words. This is the first.

Subsequent to the above, a second short story of 1000 words written: "Perfect Love". And then a third: "Picnic Boy". And then a fourth, "End of Home".

Also, another short story written, "Elevator Pitch", intended for a different collection to that mentioned above.

Also, another two short stories written, "Some Pastel Morning" and "Sundowning", both intended for a different collection to all of those mentioned above!

Also, my short story, "Throttle Body", has been published and is now available from Nightjar Press, here.

Pleased to announce my short story, "Keepers", has been accepted for the anthology, "At The Lighthouse", edited by Sophie Essex to be published by Eibonvale Press. Submissions were read blind by Sophie, so the fact that she is my partner didn't count! And my short story, "An Absence of Ghosts", has been accepted for publication in a future edition of Theaker's Quarterly Fiction.

September 2022

A short (less than 500 word) memory of the first gig I attended on the 14th November 1981 is included in the book, Live (Xcerpts) – The Story of The Stranglers as told by the fans. This is currently available for pre-order through This Day In Music Books.

And I've sold my short story, "The Enfilade", to Black Static magazine.

The past few months I've been concentrating on writing a new novel, "Observations In Tenderness", and things have otherwise been quiet. There's still some way to go.

However, today I can announce the SF time-travel novel I've written with Eugen Bacon, has been sold to Cosmic Egg Books. I've created a dedicated page for that book on the website here.

November 2020

I've sold a short story titled "Fetch" to a magazine I'm not sure I'm allowed to name yet, and another short, "The Ice-Cream Blonde", to Crimewave magazine. I've also written a collaborative story with Eugen Bacon called "Messier 94".

October 2020

I've recently returned and added some content to an older short story of mine, "Where Do Broken Dreams Go?", and consider that this is a new story for the purposes of this timeline.

Meantime, my short story, "My Somnambulant Heart", has been published in Terror Tales Of The Home Counties, edited by Paul Finch, and my seventh short story collection, Frequencies of Existence, has been published by NewCon Press. My story, "The Girl With The Horizontal Walk", originally publshed as a standalone chapbook through Salò Press, has now been reprinted in Best British Short Stories 2020 edited by Nicholas Royle for Salt Publishing.

September 2020

I've completed the non-fiction project I've been working on all year. It's currently being read by my preferred publisher.

The limited edition 'green' version of my book, "O For Obscurity, Or, The Story of N", about The Mysterious N Senada sold out almost immediately upon announcement, as did the regular version. A second print run is on the way, so head over to Psychofon Records to buy one before it's too late.

My short story, "Clusterfuck", was published in Ambit in July 2017. I see it's also now available to read in full on their website.

And I've abandoned that novel, "The Non-Conformists", but written a new short story, "All That Dead Beauty", which I've immediately sold to an anthology I will be able to name in the new year.

My short story, "Of Course, A Girl", about Zelda Fitzgerald, has been published in the anthology, Afterlives Of The Writers from 5th Wall Press.

A couple of short reminiscences written about the band The Smiths regarding their gigs in Norwich in 1983 and 1984 have been included and are now published in The Smiths: The Day I Was There from This Day In Music Books, edited by Richard Houghton.

Also, together with my partner, Sophie, we have set up a new press to publish surrealist anthologies and poetry collections. More details over at salò press. She is also including my short story, "You Can't Handle Love", in the next issue of Fur-Lined Ghettos magazine.

And I've just sold a novella, "The Greens", to Spectral Press for publication in 2016.

My short story, "Shoot For The Moon", has been published in Monomyth #56. And I finished the first draft of my fourth Mordent novel, "The Happy Finish".

I have had three stories published this month: "Burning Daylight" in Confingo #2, "Black Lung" in Black Static #43 and "Soapsud Galaxies" in Jupiter #46. I was a guest at Horror In The East.

My short story "The Opaque District" has been published in Horror Uncut. And another story, "The Frequency of Existence", has been sold to Black Static.

Reprint: "Your Golden Hands", previously published in PostScripts, will appear in the World Fantasy publication "Unconventional Fantasy, A Celebration of Forty Years of the World Fantasy Convention".

I have a bookstore signing for my novel, "The Immortalists", at Diss Publishing Bookshop on 21st June from 10:30 onwards. Please come along.

Three new short stories written: "Vulvert", "Black Lung" and "Sömntuta". And three sold: "Soapsud Galaxies" to Jupiter SF, "Periscope" to Perihelion and "The Plasticity of Identity" to an anthology I am yet able to name. An article, "Under The Influence", has also appeared in the Crime Writers Association magazine, Red Herrings.

And I can now announce that my short story, "Softwood", accepted by NewCon Press last November will appear in their "La Femme" anthology to be published at Easter.

The World Fantasy Award nominees, for which I was one of the judges, have also been announced this month.

My short story, "The Indecipherable Dust", has been published in a booklet celebrating five years of NewCon Press. Titled "Now We Are 5", this limited edition 100 copy booklet also features material by Ian Watson, Adam Roberts, Eric Brown and Susan Sinclair. Also, "On The Beach" has been published in Unspoken Water.

Also during July I read from my novella "Ponthe Oldenguine" and the short story, "Your Golden Hands" at Cafe Writers in Norwich.

I can now announce I'm one of the Judges for this year's World Fantasy Awards. Lots of reading to do in the coming months! I'm also going to be DJ-ing six shows for local Future Radio. My short story, "Cling", can now be read in the paper version of The View From Here. I've also heard that my story, "Deadtime", was published over at CrimeSpree earlier this year. The detective in "Deadtime" is Mordent - the semi-regular character of my foray into crime. In fact, I've just started writing a novel, "The Immortalists", featuring him. More on that as it happens.

Further update: within 3 days "Kodokushi" sold to PostScripts anthology. Very pleased indeed!

And my 2004 novel, "Moon Beaver", is now available here as a $5 e-book download.

Update: September is proving to be a busy month. Just returned from an excellent FantasyCon where Elastic Press won the PS Publishing Small Press Award 2009 (our final year of eligibility), only to find that "Pansy Blade Cassandra Moko" has been accepted for publication in Zahir (due April 2010). My hard work seems to be paying off...

The Elastic Press final sales push reached its climax at EasterCon in Bradford when almost all the outstanding stock was sold! Thanks to everyone for their support. Post-Elastic writing is also coming on nicely, with two stories recently completed: "Outer Spaces" and "Love Is The Drug".

This month sees my announcement that I'm closing Elastic Press with immediate effect. It was a good run, but now it's time to move onto other things. Thanks to those who have emailed me in support.
